President's Message

Each spring, the AMA’s National Advocacy Conference (NAC) brings physicians and medical leaders together for presentations by key political leaders and legislators.

This activity, which also includes educational sessions and workshops, is designed to help attendees learn how to make their messages heard at the local and national level.

On March 29th, in Washington, D. C. the (NAC) conference featured a diverse group of speakers who updated us on the current political climate as it relates to health care.

I attended this meeting along with executive director of our organization. It was a wealth of information about how to lobby and provide legislative testimony, along with how to communicate with the media organizations in the rest of our country.

I came back with the following conclusions:

1. Our voices will be heard more as an organization than as an individual, so it is very important to support our local professional organization, which will be representing us with lobbying for our interests.

2. The medical profession is in crisis regarding malpractice insurance premiums increasing and in the availability of affordable health insurance for everybody.

Our hope is that the political leadership will recognize these crises and work diligently to help solve them.
