In Memory of Dr. Larry J. Van Weile
Dr. Larry J. Van Wiel died in Fountain Hills, Arizona, on October 14, 2004, after a valiant fight to overcome cancer. The funeral mass was said by his brother, Rev. John Van Wiel.
Larry was born on July 11, 1942, in Moline, Illinois. His parents still reside in the family home. He married Lenore Loeffler in 1964 and they were blessed with four sons.
Larry graduated medical school in 1967. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War in 1968 to 1970. After completing his internship in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and his residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, he entered his first practice as an anesthesiologist in Albuquerque, NM where the family resided for five years. Larry relocated the family to Des Moines, Iowa where he practiced at Iowa Methodist Medical Center for more than 25 years.
His many interests and activities included church and school boards, Boy scouts, the YMCA, travel, bird watching, fishing, following his children’s involvement in sports and music, and generosity to many organizations.
Dr. Van Wiel is survived by his wife, four sons, and three grandchildren.
