This year we are celebrating our 75th
Anniversary. The Polk County Medical
Society Alliance was organized May 1,
1929. There have been many
transformations; our name was changed
from Auxiliary to Alliance and our focus
is not only on "who" we are, it’s also
"what" we do for the community and the
family of medicine. The PCMSA Board of
Directors felt that our mission
statement and primary objectives should
reflect these changes so we asked for
our member’s input. A new mission
statement was approved at our October 5,
2004 membership gathering.
Mission Statement
The mission of the PCMS Alliance is to
partner with physicians to promote the
good health of our community and the
state of Iowa and to support the family
of medicine.
Primary Objectives
The objectives of this alliance shall
be:
1. To cooperate with PCMS, IMSA and AMAA
in its programs and projects;
2. To promote health education;
3. To support local organizations in
health related endeavors through raising
funds for our Community Resources
Project and to encourage participation
of volunteerism in activities that meet
health needs;
4. To advocate for the medical
profession through legislative action;
5. To offer caring support, networking
and fellowship for medical families.
We are the Community Relations
Department of the PCMS along with the
PCMS Executive Council and staff. Our
members help put a local, friendly and
personal face on health care. We are
workers, ambassadors, publicists and
partners - the PCMSA in action.
We are concerned about how the Medical
Alliance is perceived. The revised
mission statement clearly identifies our
purpose. It is our hope that physician
spouses who have been reluctant to join
us in the past will now have a better
idea of what we stand for. Please help
us by encouraging your spouse to join us
and make a difference.
